Common Misconceptions

The region of SWANA (southwest Asia and North Africa) has many misconceptions that people think about when they hear countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, or Iraq. One of the most popular imagines formed by people is that this region is very arid and dessert- like filled with sand dunes with scorching heat pouring in. People also have created somewhat true assumptions that the women are very conservative in their clothing, have no human rights, and are often "given away" to take part in arranged marriages. One of the most ridiculous and common misconceptions is, that every person in this region has a camel or has ridden on a camel just like all texans "obviously" wear cowboy boots ,ride horses, and milk cows. The SWANA region also has its significance and plays multiple major roles in the exporting and importing businesses that shape the global economy. Our modern lifestyles depend on oil, from our cars and vehicles being powered by gasoline going from one place to another and goods being shipped from warehouses to neighborhood markets. And where else would the majority of this worlds oil come from? From the SWANA region, of course. Many of the developed countries companies ,like the US, do business in this regions countries like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. As a result, political, social, and economic changes that take place in the southwest Asia and North Africa area have major impacts on our daily lives here in the west.
