Dextromethorphan is swallowed to obtain a high. It can be taken as a liquid, pill, or a powder and is sometimes mixed into recipes for snacks and smoothies to try and alleviate vomiting. The substance containing DXM is taken quickly in large doses to let the body absorb the drug before vomiting.
