How did it get it's nickname (the city of angels)?

The nickname had been used by Los Angeles pacific coast league team from 1903- 1957

The team renamed the California Angels in 1965 and became the Anaheim Angels after Walt Disney company took control of the name in 1997

Arte Moreno (owner) changed the teams name to include Los Angeles in 2005 in hopes of tapping into the L.A. media market

L.A. Gained a second major league team in 1961 when the Angels entered the American League

In 1848 it got the nickname "City of Angels"
