Why?

Unemployment statistics put SA at 25% but the real number is closer to 40% - 50% according to Deloitte

THE SCALE OF THE CHALLENGE
Unemployment is a global issue and it is so serious that it topples governments when citizens feel their leaders have failed to meet the challenge.

An unemployment level of 5% is considered acceptable but in the USA unemployment has hit 8%-9% and this may prove to be President Barack Obama’s greatest re-election hurdle.

In the UK unemployment is 8.2% and the uncertainty that comes with having 2.6 million people out of work is one of the issues facing the government of that country as it seeks to kick start its economy.

Greece with 22% unemployment is experiencing major political and economic turbulence and at the time of writing it is literally without a government.

It is noticeable that some emerging market countries – such as China with 4% and Australia 4.9% - have managed to buck the trend and achieve low unemployment numbers despite the troubled global economy.

Unfortunately, South Africa is not amongst them.
