The Breakdown
OA (Ocean Acidification) is a term used to explain the decrease in pH levels of the ocean over a period of time, primarily due to the intake of excess amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.
OA reduces the levels of calcium carbonate- the chemical which helps the formation of shellfish and coral reefs. This threatens the existence of many marine species.
