The leaves are very important for the plant. Photosynthesis, the process of how the plant makes food, happens in the leaves.

Sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide come together to make food for the plant. During this process the leaves create oxygen and sugar (sucrose). Plants use the sugar for food and dispose of the oxygen.
