-Released hormone: protein (parathormone)

-Target organs: skeleton, kidneys, and intestines

Target Organs

-Stimulates osteoclasts (bone-rye absorbing cells) to digest some of the bony matrix and release ionic calcium and phosphates to the blood
- Enhances reabsorption of Ca2+ by the kidneys
-Promotes activation of vitamin D, thereby increasing absorption of Ca2+ by intestinal mucosal cells
-Regulation of release: Falling blood Ca2+ levels trigger PTH release, and rising blood Ca2+ levels inhibit it's release
