How was he honored ?

Once he was old enough, he was able to join the Portugal navy, where he learned how to navigate.

Some consequences were that since the trip was so long on sea, only 54 of the 170 crew returned after 2 years away from home, two of the four ships created only two ships survived after a crash, illness spread throughout the ship - he was able to prove where India really was and a simpler route

Two of the four ships on his first voyage were named "São Gabriel" and "São Rafael"

- accepted a promise from King John ||| to be the Portuguese viceroy of India in 1524.

- in 1519 he was named count of Vidigueira

Vasco's goal for his journey was to find a southern route to what Christopher Columbus thought was India. In his two voyages he encountered, Calicut,India, Cochin, India, and Mozambique, India
