Quickly in my freshman year at Savannah State, I discovered that I had no connection with my inner self. Desperately trying to discover who I was, I grasped on to whatever I thought society would say fit, which only led me down the road of trouble and depression. Many would say that developing your inner self is something that your parents must provide or install you with but I feel that why yes some portion of it but mostly I feel it’s how we personally develop and see ourselves. Therefore, I set out on a mission to help the youth realize or view themselves in a more positive light. My mission was to let as many know that the feeling of being lost with in yourself is not one abnormal it’s just a growing process but one that needs to be nurtured with positivity. Also that they don’t have to change who they are, just to feel important or fit in. Being a student at Savannah State University, helped me to understand that there are more opportunities in life to take part in. By first turning from negativity influence, I joined several different peer organizations which exposed me to different positive avenues. This exposure with the support of my family helped me to gain a new self-love. No longer caring what people thought of me, I wanted to make a difference and become a role model to others.

“We are all judged every day in life, you cannot allow that to stop you from chasing your dreams.”
