The Genocide: April 24, 1915
On the night of April 24th, 300 learned Armenian men were taken, briefly jailed, tortured, then hung or shot. Next, groups of Armenian men were tied up and taken to the outskirts of their town, where they were stabbed to death or shot. Finally, Armenian women and children were told to pack quickly under the false impression that they were being moved to a non war zone. However, they were taken on death marches covering hundreds of miles, lasting for months. With no food or water, if someone stopped to rest, they were beaten until they rejoined the group or were shot. Those who survived were drowned in rivers, burned alive, or thrown off cliffs.
