Marriages are negotiated between the families of the bride and the groom. (goats, chickens, money, broomsticks, etc. are presented by the groom as an offer to marry the woman, a large amount of gifts shows that the groom will be able to support his wife.)

Walking down the isle, people throw money over the bride and the train of her dress as a blessing.

The children belong to the lineage of the husband, unless the woman has the child out of wedlock. Then they would belong to her natal lineage.

The Igbo have marriage options permitting woman to woman marriages, only in special circumstances.

In the past, Igbo men practiced polygamy. This was to have more people help work on their farm. Now, they just have nuclear families. (families with two parents and children)
