Similarites and Differences

1. The first similarity between my family's personal heritage and the immigrants' heritage is that we are all U.S. immigrants, meaning my family and these other immigrants all came from a home country outside of the U.S.

2. The second similarity is that these early immigrants came from European countries just like my family did. They came here from Ireland.

3. The third simularity is kind of silly :). Some of the Slovakian immigrants who lived in Bohemian Flats kept chickens and ducks. My grandpa had a pet duck when he was young!

1. The first difference is that my family's immigration to the U.S. occured in the 1720's while the immigrants described in the text did not come to the U.S until the 1880's , almost 170 years later. These immigrants came to Minnesota, while my family first settled on the east coast.

2. The second difference, is the type work that my ancestors did compared to what the later immigrants did. My ancestors worked on farms in mostly country settings, while the immigrants 170 years later worked in factories in city or urban settings.

3. Finally the last difference is that my ancestors didn't have a choice whether or not to stay in Ireland because they would die of starvation if they stayed. While the immigrants in 1880 had the choice, they wanted to find better jobs with more income and hoping to find better opportunities for them and their familes.
