During the Nz wars 3 million acres of land was taken from the maoris. In the 1800’s there was frequent contact between the whalers sealers and traders but there where some miner conflicts between the maori and the whalers and merchants. There was too much demand for wood to build ships for the whalers so they let the maori have there way so there wasn’t any conflict.
