He was born on May 20, 1789.

He was the 9th of 10 children.

He was raised during the French Revolution.

He did not enjoy school and only went for one day.

He was ordained a Priest on July 2,1816.

He founded the Marist Brothers in 1817.

He struggled with illiteracy and spritual poverty.

He died on June 6, 1840 at age 51.

He was canonized on April 18, 1999 with a feast day of June 6th.
