Most common in men aging from 15-54 years old

Hemothorax is the accumulation of blood in the pleural cavity.

Causes:

1. Trauma causing bleeding from intercostal vessels.

2. Tuberculosis, malignancy involving pleura.

3. Infarction of lung.

4. Rarely, hemorrhagic diathesis.

5. Rupture of aortic aneurysm.
