Cortes Conquers the Aztec

-He was greated as a god but took Moctezuma prisoner
-Moctezuma was killed in a battle between Indian and Spanish forces

-In 1400 Spanish "explorers" arrived in the Americas. Later called Conquistadors, came for gold and to spread Christianity
-Cortes landed in Mexico in 1519, looking for gold
-Moctezuma II believed Cortes was a god. He resembled an god who they believed would return some day
