Some interesting facts about Peru are that Peru comes from the word Birú which was the the name of a local ruler in the 16th century. The second interesting fact is Peru is the biggest producer of cocaine (I am not incouraging drugs, it's just a fact).

Peru received its independence on July 28, 1821.
