Aztecs Religious Beliefs
The Aztecs believed that their gods were needed to survive. Therefore they held many ceremonies believing it would keep their gods happy. Happy gods made for good harvests and an easier life. It was normal for Priests to give the gods flowers, clothing, images made of wood, or ears of maize. Meanwhile the Aztecs would sing and dance. But the Aztecs believed their god’s favorite gift was a human sacrifice in order to feed their spirits.
Calling themselves the “people of the sun” the Aztecs fed their sun god with blood or a heart from a human sacrifice on top of one their great pyramids/temples. The preferred blood came from a warrior because they believed it was very rich and nourishing. The warrior would join in with their god in battle. Some warriors would willingly be sacrificed believing they would join the gods in the sky.
