UN MDG #5: Maternal Health

Did You Know?

-Every day, around 800 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth.

-Maternal mortality is higher in women living in rural areas and among poorer communities.

-Between 1990 and 2010, maternal mortality worldwide dropped by almost 50%

Solution to the Problem

A way to fix the problem could be sending more women doctors to developing countries to assist people. Some religions don't allow men doctors help women, only women or someone from their family.

There is still improvement needed to achieve this goal. There has been increased efforts nearing 2015. 7 out of the 75 countries with high mortality rates for children under five are on the right track to achieving it.
