William Lloyd Garrison
-Most Radical white
abolitionist
-Started his own paper titled
"The Liberator" in 1831
-It delivered the message to
emancipate slaves with no
payment to slaveholders
-Founded the New England
Anti- Slavey Society
David Walker
-A free black
-Published "Appeal to the
Colored Citizens of the World"
-In that, he advised blacks to
fight for their freedom rather
than to wait for it to happen
Frederick Douglass
-Born into slavery in 1817
-Was taught to read and write
by the wife of one of his
owners
-By 1838 he had a job as a ship
caulker but couldn't keep his
earnings
- Escaped to New York and
had freedom
-Read "The Liberator" and
Garrison was so impressed
with Douglass that he made
him a lecturer
