How War is Carried Out

(Pre-Colonial)

Only waged if the Oracle approved

Usually fought for land, water and trade.

Usually very short wars because men that fought also had jobs in the village ex. (Cutting down trees, harvesting, planting)

Used canoes to reach enemies by water

They believed when they fought “Kill other guy before he kills me.”

Used home field advantage


Wars became longer and more deadly

Firearms were used

Tribes turned on tribes

Tribes captured other Igbo people and traded them to the Europeans
