Newton's 1st law
An object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion remains in motion at constant speed and in a straight line unless acted on by an unbalanced force.
An object in motion remains in motion and in a straight line unless acted on by a unbalanced force. A car is going down the road and another car hits it. The unbalanced force, the car, stopped the car in motion.
An object at rest remains at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. The soccer ball, the object in rest, is resting on a soccer field. That's when a foot, the unbalanced force, kicks the ball. It becomes an object in motion.
