Marshall is the one of the main characters in this short story. Early on in the story, Marshall visits a numerologist, whom tells him to change the first letter of his last name to make his future better. Henry Brand and Lt. Albert Quincy are researching into the fact of why Zebatinsky changed part of his last name, and to see if he is related to the Russian Zebatinsky.
