Rock Specimens

The three types of rock that I have found and photographed and chosen for this presentation are granite, Basalt and pumice. I found all of them on the way from Mordialloc to Mentone beach and back. We had many activities and guides in the way the Mentone we stopped multiple times and had a man and woman come to talk to us about the beach and problems that the beach is facing. They were also talking about what we can do to help the beach.

Granite

Some magma cools slowly, large crystals form in the rock. This can happen if the magma cools deep underground. Granite in an example of this type of rock. They are intrusive igneous rocks because they form from magma underground.

Pumice

Pumice is formed as pyroclastic material that is pushed into the air as a froth containing of gas bubbles, the lava solidifies quickly and the air is contained in the rock.

Basalt

Basalt forms when lava reaches the Earth's surface from a volcano on the surface or underwater. within a few days or a couple weeks, the lava will cool down and form a solid rock.
