Irish elk extinct

Irish Elk (Megaloceros giganteus)

The Irish Elk stood about 2.1 meters (6.9 ft) tall at the shoulders

Extinction

The cause of their extinction has focused on the antler size (rather than their overall body size). Another cause of the Irish elks extinction was that it was possibly hunted. The last one in Ireland dying around 11,000 years ago

Environment: where it lived

Land

It ranged throughout Europe, northern Asia and northern Africa, and a related form is known from China It roamed grasslands mostly and it lived above the equator

Interesting fact

It stood above 6.9 feet tall and its antlers could grow to about 11.8 ft.

It's so interesting because of the massive size, the fact that their antlers could possibly grow even larger than that is amazing
