Ultraviolet Light

Ultraviolet light occur naturally in sunlight. Fortunately, the ozone layer blocks most uv radiation from reaching the surface of the earth. It's part of the short wavelength family.

They are used to for sterilizing food. Sterilizing means to destroy microorganism in or on, usually by bringing to a high temperture with steam, dry heat, or boiling liquid.

The dangers of ultraviolet rays is that UV rays can also damage the the eyes as more than 99% of UV radiation is absorbed by the front of the eyes.
