Vertical Graduation
VERTICAL GRADUATION
The lightest or softest form of graduation. Use to release weight and create volume
*The angle of your fingers
determines the amount of graduation created*
PROPER HAND AND BODY POSITIONING
-The palm of your hand faces you to cut the left or right side.
-To ensure balance from side to side, keep your arm close to your body

1. Subsections at the center back of head standing directly behind the head.
2. Small teeth of the comb , comb hair from scalp to ends... Directing the hair vertically from the subsections.
3. Angle Fingers ( determining amount of graduation)
4. Take diagonal subsection to maintain weight ( no wider the. Width of fingers) as you move away from the center guide elevation drops.
5. Take new subsections invoking previous guide.
*Once you reach the round of the head, hair is directed back to stationary guide,
6. Conte to direct hair back until behind the ear.
7. Repeat on other side
8. Drop section 3 and 4
(Above the Occipital)
1. Continue this section like the previous. Remember the length if the subsections is based in the length of your fingers and gives the ability to control the hair.
2. Pick up small portions of guide from below.
3. Connect to new guid new cut.
4. Pivot around head directing hair back to stationary guide.
(Side Perimeter)
1. hair is directed back to the curve of the head and cut
2. continue until you reach hairline
3. Repeat on opposite side
(Top Section)
Drop the top section (5 and 6)
Match guide and elevation taking small sections to visibly see guide at all times
- Pivot subsections from the crown until you reach the parting
- Continue to pivot subsections on the heavy side of the part direct hair back to the guide as done previously.
