•Economic Criticisms

•The New Deal put the government in direct competition with private businesses

•The business community felt that the government was now too involved in the business world (NIRA, Wagner Act, SEC)

•Business leaders felt that there was too much regulations

•High taxation on business stifled enterprises

Criticisms of the Business Community

•Social Criticisms

•The New Deal was seen as an attack on free enterprise

•The passage of the Wagner Act also gave employees the right to organize unions and prohibited Business leaders from refusing to bargain with certified unions

• The government would act as mediator between unions and businesses

• The Wagner Act would lead to 2000 strikes in 1934 alone

• Strikes were obviously not good for businesses
