SMOKY MOUNTAIN BLACK BEAR FACTS…

DO NOT FEED THE BEARS!

1. There are 1500+ bears in the Smoky Mountains

2. They range between 4-6 ft in length and 2.5-3 ft in shoulder height.

2. Males weigh between 125 and 500 lb. and are called Boers.

3. Females weigh between 90-275 lb. and are called Sows.

4. Bears over 600 pounds have been documented in the park!

5. The average lifespan in the wild is 18 years

6. Black Bears have the intelligence of a 3 year old child.

7. Bears can run up to 40 mph! Fastest human can run 27 mph.
