History of ketamine
In 1962 by Calvin Stevens at Parke Davis labs while searching for PCP anaesthetic replacements, he named it "C1581".
-Used primarily for veterinary anesthesiology.
-1965 ketamine was discovered to be a useful anaesthetic & was first used recreationally by Edward Domino : he called it a "dissociative anaesthetic".
-Ketamine was a useful anaesthetic because it surpresses breathing way less than other anaesthetics.
-1970s patients reported unwanted hallucinations & visions.
-1978 John Lilly published his book "the Scientist" & ketamine's popularity grew throughout the 1980s until 1995 when the DEA added ketamine onto its "emerging drugs list"
-1998/99 was called a date rape drug.
-August 12, 1999 it was emergency scheduled by the DEA.
