The broad objectives of the correctional services are:

The primary goal of the correctional facility is the protection of the public and the security of staff and inmates.3 primary responsibilities stem from this goal:

- ensure the safety and security of both staff, inmates and wards

- maintain order and professionalism within the facility

- prevent escape, riots and disturbances

- to provide facilities for the admissions of inmates, wards, remandees who are sentenced to imprisonment or remanded by the courts, as well as provide a system for persons who have been awarded non-custodial sentences.

-to create and ensure a secure, safe and healthy environment for inmates, wards, remandees and staff

-to create and maintain opportunities that are relevant for the empowerment and rehabilitation of inmates, wards and other clients that will result in their becoming more peaceful, responsible and productive members of society.
