Some areas such as east Africa, who had suffered from slave raids and long periods of war, let Europe in with the hope that they would bring peace.

overall, there was little reaction to there presence, as it did not effect most people in rural Africa.

By the time of the Great War, all of Africa with the exception of Ethiopia and Liberia had been colonized by European powers.
