Medusa was a monster. She had the face of an ugly woman with snakes instead of hair. Originally, she was a golden haired, fair maiden who was devoted to a life of celibacy. After falling for Poseidon, she went against her vows and married him. Because of this she was punished horribly by the goddess. Each lock of her hair was turned into a venomous snake, her eyes turned blood red, and her skin turned green.
