People say that the name Renju does not have a meaning, but according to the website www.anamazing.com, recent archeological evidence suggests that Renju is the name of an old Mayan Bounty Hunter. Odd name for an ancient Bounty Hunter, but it sure is interesting.

An interesting fact about this game that I also found on renju.se is that Renju is thought to be the early prototype of the game Five in a Row. The reason for this is that you must get 5 stones (tiles) in a row.

History of Renju

Website renju.se claims that the a board game known as "Go" was played in Japan on a 19x19 Go-Board possibly as early as 700 A.D. The game Renju was after the game Go, so it is said that it was practically copied and slightly changed.

It is unclear of where the game Renju was created. Different information from different places state that Renju simply evolved from earlier, similar games to Renju.
