- Even though he wasn't a fan of taking big risk he sensed an opportunity in the oil business in the early 1860s.


- Since oil production was booming in western penn, Rockefeller decided that creating and oil refinery near Cleveland would be an acute business move.


- In 1863, he opened his first refinery, and within two years it became the largest in the area.


- The success of this jump made him realize that the oil business would be his future.
