Analyze the Religious Differences
The Ottoman Empire is the oldest of the three empires. Its official religion was Sunni Islam, which is the largest branch of Islam. Shi'a Islam was also followed by a good portion of people within the Ottoman Empire. The differences between Sunni and Shi'a Islam the two root from disagreements about the successor of Prophet Mohammed.
The founder of the Safavid Empire, Shah Ismail I, forced the Iran people to convert from Sunni Islam to Shi'a Islam. This established Shi'ism as the empire's official religion.
The Mughal Empire offered a cultural mesh of both Hindus and Muslims. The Mughals were Muslims that ruled over a predominantly Hindu land. This spread Muslim beliefs and culture in India, but still allowed Hindu Indians to have a government position.
