The emancipation Proclamation in 1863 freed African Americans in rebel State, after the civil war the 13th amendment emancipated all u.s slaves. "The Treatment of slaves ranged from mild paternalistic to cruel and sadistic. On December 6,1865, eight months after the end of the civil war."(Bruce catton)

How African Americans were treated after the civil war.






Freed slaves after the civil war was treated, most southerners had lost what they had before the war. Many had land taken from them and given to blacks and homes burned. This created bad feelings toward blacks. They took the social structure and completely flipped it around and manipulated it.
