Loreto schools

It has never been fully explained why Mother Teresa Ball named her convent Loreto House. Mother Teresa Ball founded the Irish branch of Loreto and she chose Loreto as it was of the most ancient and revered shrines in Europe. Ironically, at this point she was completely unaware of the significance of this name in other parts of the world!

She however erroneously spelt it as Loretto and this error in the spelling continued for many years and was only rectified much later..

It was intriguing to know that the Loreto crest was believed to be designed by Mother Teresa Ball in 1850 as an expression of her spirituality
