Proteins are important molecules in cells. Proteins are the major component of the dry weight of cells. The name protein is derived from a Greek word "Proteios" which means "pre-eminent" or "first". Proteins are the most abundant intercellular macro-molecules. Proteins are present in and vital to all living cells.
