- after Hammurabi’s death, his empire fell apart and Babylonia dwindled in size and scope


- in 1595 BCE Babylon was sacked by the Hittites


- Later the Kassites followed the Hittites and re-named the city Karanduniash


- Then the Assyrians followed the Kassites in dominating the region


- While they were under the reign of the Assyrian ruler Sennacherib Babylon, they revolted



- Then Sennacherib had the city sacked, razed, and the ruins scattered as a lesson to others
