Nonparalytic Aseptic Meningitis

This stage is not common, but occurs when the virus is not destroyed by antibodies and spreads to the CNS.

Symptoms of this stage of polio include pain/stiffness of the spine, muscle weakness, and paralysis

*Polio largely affects the legs because the virus prefers neurons in the front of the horns of the spinal cord
