How to help a Suicidal Person:

Be yourself. Let the person know you care and are there for them. Show them that they are not alone.

Listen. Don't get mad, don't get upset, just listen. No matter how you feel realize that them opening up is hard. Even though the situation is negative, having them talk about it is a positive sign.

Helping a Suicidal Person:

Be careful with what you say. You don't want to make the person feel worse than he/she may feel.

Let them express themselves the way they want. Let them cry. Let them yell. Listen to everything they say. But don't let them become violent or harm themselves. If the person is at high risk of suicide do not leave them alone. Only after they have help may you consider leaving them alone.

Helping a Suicidal Person:

Be Patient. Be non-judgmental. Be accepting and calm. Having them talk to you is hard for them. Understand that it's hard for them to speak out.

Offer hope. Show them that help is available. Show them they are important to you.
