Advantages

It created a feeling of belonging. People started to feel Australian. Easier to trade between states because they had federal laws to cover all the states. Easier to form a army airforce and navy. It was easier to make laws which affected everyone.

Disadvantages

Created another level of government. It cost a lot of money. Some people wanted to keep their British identity. Smaller states eg South Australia felt they would be overpowered by wealthier states such as Victoria and New South Wales thought they would be over powered by the wealthier states.
