The economic crash led to a stall in consumerism
While nearly all Americans lost jobs, wealth or status during the Great Depression, consumer culture did not disappear completely. Remnants of roaring 20s high-life ads persisted while fewer in number.
Decrease in conspicuous consumption as wages dropped, unemployment rates rose, and many families were forced to save their money to purchase essentials.
