Government intervention in this market
HS2 (High Speed Two)
High Speed 2 is a planned high-speed railway in the United Kingdom linking London, Birmingham, the East Midlands, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester. It's aim is to decrease the number of road users in order to ease congestion and decrease the negative externalities that come with congestion. It also aims to provide users with a service that enables them to travel the country quickly and easily.
The cost of HS2 (over £42 billion for the track and £8 billion for the rolling stock) means it is arguably the most expensive single project ever attempted by a British government in recent times.
