KEY QUOTES

Romeo And Juliet-HATE-

QUOTES

-''From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,

Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.''

-''Do you bite your thumb at us, sir?

I do bite my thumb, sir.

Do you bite your thumb at us, sir?

No, sir, I do not bite my thumb at you, sir,

but I bite my thumb, sir. ''

-''My only love, sprung from my only hate''

-“Peace? I hate the word as I hate hell and all Montague

The fight that ended with the death of Mercutio and Tybalt shows hatred because Tybalt, who is a capulet, kills Mercutio, who is a Montague, and Romeo, who is a Montague, kills Tybalt because he killed Mercutio which shows the hatred that the Capulets and Montagues had.

(key characters: Mercutio, Tybalt and Romeo)

When the hatred between the Montagues and Capulets finally drives both the lovers to their tragic deaths. This shows hatred because the Montigues and Capulets hated each other and that caused Romeo and Juliet to die.

(key characters: all the montigues and capulets)

The starting scene that states "Do you bite your thumb at us sir?" This shows the hatred between the montigues and the capulets.

(key characters: all the montigues and capulets)

In the prologue where it states "The ancient grudge.." shows the hatred between the Montigues and the Capulets.

(key characters: all the montigues and capulets )

The overall theme of hatred is important because if it was not in the play then the play wouldn't exist. For example, if Romeo and Juliet did not live in both those house holds where they hated each other, then they would be allowed to get married and so there wouldn't be the secrecy of getting married and there would not be the fight about marriage which means that Romeo and Juliet wouldn't die.
