Odysseus gave the cyclops wine and shortly after it fell asleep which gave Odysseus and his men the chance to escape.

Odysseus and his men escaped by stabbing him with a red-hot staff which made the cyclops start screaming. The neighbors came to check on him and moved the huge rock which gave Odysseus and his men a chance to escape by clinging the the bottom of the cyclops sheep
