The journey to purpose
Kierkegaard's focus on the individual only begins with relevant truth. Kierkegaard defines the journey an individual can make to find real purpose and satisfaction in life. He divides this journey into three stages: the Aesthetic, Ethical, and Religious stage. Transitioning into one stage or another means a feeling of dread, discontent, or sadness that changes the individual's subjective truth and motivates him to find greater meaning; this is called angst.
