* Al Capone moved to Chicago when he was in his early twenties.
* He became a bodyguard and trusted factotum for Johnny Torrio, the head of a criminal syndicate that illegally supplied alcohol.
-After Torrio was almost killed, by North Side gunmen, he retired, in turn giving control to Al Capone.
* Capone expanded the Bootlegging business through increasingly violent means. But since he had his mutually profitable relationships with mayor William Hale Thompson and the city's police meant that Capone seemed safe from law enforcement.
