Pros of protectionism
Saves jobs in domestic industries, if forced to compete against a
foreign country that produces steel more cheaply, then that domestic
industry will have to lay off hundreds or thousands of workers in
order to stay competitive
Keeps the domestic economy flowing. Since there is a decrease in
imports, domestic firms have less competition, and so are able to
continue. tariffs will protect it from foreign competitors. This
allows companies in the new industry time to learn how to produce the
good efficiently, and develop their own competitive advantages.
The barriers of the U.S. Should be as strong as the other counties. In
theory, the use of tariffs subsidies as bargaining chips at the
negotiating table with other countries.
